Hello and welcome! Caroline Garnet McGraw here – I’m thrilled that you want to read the first 2 chapters of my book, You Don’t Owe Anyone: Free Yourself from the Weight of Expectations.

The idea for this book began with a 2015 essay of mine on The Huffington Post that went crazy-viral. That led to my 2016 TEDx talk, “You Don’t Owe Anyone An Interaction.”

And after all those years of work that went into the book chapters I’m about to share with you, here’s what I want you to know…

It means a lot to know that you are ready to ruin your life with me.

Think I’m kidding? I’m really not. As an author, speaker, and coach, I’m here for people who are ready to stop doing what they’re “supposed to” do, and start doing what they’re MEANT to do.

Maybe for you it’s quitting your high-demand job and starting your own business doing what you love. Or maybe it’s freeing up your time so you can finally write that book or make that art.

When you truly believe that you don’t owe anyone, everything changes.

Many things you thought were important suddenly seem flimsy.
You see where you have bound yourself.
And from there, you begin the work of untying the knots.

Maybe you stop spending Sunday mornings consoling your troubled cousin (who will have the same crisis two days from now). You stop working 40 hours a week, snapping out of the workaholic trance and reclaiming rest.

You eliminate hundreds of unwanted emails, and piles of stuff you don’t want or need. You quit that book club that regularly brought you down, or gracefully opt out of the camping trip you dreaded.

In a sense, this untying process ruins your old life… but it also sets you up to create a new one. It’s not always an easy process, but it IS benevolent.

And it’s definitely worth it.

Yours in possibility,
Caroline

PS Doing that dance where you tell yourself that even though you want to read this book, you’re kind of overwhelmed, so you’ll just wait?

I get it. I really do. That’s precisely why it’s so important! I challenge you to set aside 15 minutes to rest and read these pages.
